Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. A child of Irish origins, who was surrounded she was by gifted parents, and her family, this came naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin in Ireland, on 17 August 1920. The mother of Maureen, Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons came 2nd in the family of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this stunning group. Maureen was a great athlete and participated in rough, competitive games when she was young. Her natural ability to perform perfectly complemented her passion for sport. This is why she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances within her own country. When she turned 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her passion for classical theatre and opera singing.
